Agri & Industrial Rubber Limited, the Ballinasloe, Co Galway company trading rubber slat mats and other shed and animal welfare equipment under the EasyFix brand, has paid the Revenue Commissioners €314,427.25 to settle an audit case.

Second quarter

The audit related to under-declaration of corporation tax and PAYE, PRSI and USC, according to the Revenue's tax defaulters' list for the second quarter of this year. The amount, now paid in full, included €224,562.85 in tax, €29,707.97 in interest and €60,156.43 in penalties.

Other taxpayers settling amounts including more than €100,000 in back taxes with Revenue include Costello Farm Feeds Limited of Portarlington, Co Laois, who paid €213,663.48 including interest and penalties; and Fintan Canty of Cahir, Ballineen, Co Cork, a farmer and instrumentation engineer who agreed to pay Revenue a total of €196,584.

Four other farmers and one cattle exporter also settled outstanding tax bills with Revenue between April and June.

Income tax returns

Some 14 farmers, some of them part-time, were fined by the courts during the same period for failing to file income tax returns – one of them totalling four charges of the offence.

John O'Mahoney of Brohill North, Charleville, Co Cork, whose occupation is listed as fertiliser sales, was fined for failing to lodge income tax returns three times, and VAT returns twice.

Two farmers and one agricultural contractor were fined for misuse of marked mineral oil, ie green diesel.
