Theatre

Chicago

11-21 May: The international award-winning musical Chicago comes to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for May. Based on real-life events back in the roaring 1920s, nightclub singer Roxie Hart shoots her lover and – along with cell block rival, double-murderess Velma Kelly – fights to keep from death row with the help of smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn. Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, Chicago’s sexy, sassy score includes All That Jazz, Razzle Dazzle and Cell Block Tango. A nightclub singer, a double-murderess, a smooth-talking lawyer and a cell block of sin – it would be a crime to miss it. Tickets are €25. For more information, see www.ticketmaster.ie

Comedy

Deirdre O’Kane

14 May: Performing in Vicar Street, Deirdre O’Kane remains one of the finest Irish comedians out there, and to see her attack her midlife crisis (or series of small crises) in this show is an absolute treat. Deirdre’s style of comedy is very confessional. She doesn’t see why her midlife crisis shouldn’t be funny. Especially when you throw her fictitious relationship with Mark Ruffalo into the mix, not to mention the kids she’s trying to prevent from becoming tanned in the blue light of iPads and computer screens. Tickets are €25. For more information see, www.ticketmaster.ie

Film

Angry Birds

13 May: When an island populated by happy, flightless birds is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to three unlikely outcasts – Red, Chuck and Bomb – to figure out what the pigs are up to. Based on the hit smart phone game this comedy film adaptation has a stellar cast of voice actors including Ike Barinholtz, Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis and Kate McKinnon. Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly.
