McCarthy Plant & Agri open days

FTMTA member firm McCarthy Plant & Agri Sales Ltd is hosting an open weekend at its West Cork branch in Lisavaird near Clonakilty on Saturday 15 February, and Sunday 16 February.

The open days will run from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday and from 11.30am to 5.30pm on Sunday.

Light refreshments will be served from midday to 4.30pm on both days. All are welcome.

LEMKEN Plough Programme at Kildalton College

Following a successful inaugural programme last year, FTMTA member firms LEMKEN and Templetuohy Farm Machinery Ltd are proud to launch this year’s LEMKEN Plough Programme for Machinery & Crop Management students at Kildalton College.

LEMKEN has placed a four-furrow EurOpal 7X plough in Kildalton College for students to use in the coming months.

With regular information and instruction from LEMKEN specialists, the students will gain valuable knowledge in correct plough settings, procedures and how to gain the maximum returns from ploughing in terms of productivity and profitability.

Diarmuid Claridge, area sales manager with LEMKEN, says: “Soil is the most valuable asset on any farm and treating it correctly is vital. Correct plough settings are key to maintaining soil structure, drainage and weed control.

‘‘The plough will be available for each student to use throughout the season, allowing them to see the benefits of the LEMKEN plough and its unique systems to reduce fuel usage, wheel slip, and metal wear by using its true alignment.

“The hard-wearing DuraMaxx plough body will also be demonstrated to show the students the cost savings available through this unique design. Up to 75% more hectares can be gained from using DuraMaxx bodies.”

At the end of the spring, the students will compete against each other in a ploughing match where their knowledge of ploughing, in terms of safety, correct settings and procedures, will be put to the test.

The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to the LEMKEN factory in Germany, a Waterford Crystal Trophy and the title of LEMKEN Plough Operator Of The Year.
