An auction not to miss with almost 60 vintage tractors is taking place on Saturday 23 August in Clifford’s Tractor Parts premises, based in Ballydwyer East, Ballymacelligott, Tralee Co Kerry. Some of the rarest and most unique tractors on the island of Ireland are going up for sale.

History of Clifford’s Tractor Parts

Clifford’s Tractor Parts was founded by Patrick Clifford in 1978. However, the original business concept has changed greatly since then, as Patrick had focused mainly on fixing and selling tractors. In the 1990s, with the help of his sons Colm and Noel, as well as his son-in-law Pat, the business diversified into tractor breaking and second-hand parts and in the 2000s the family business developed into one of the leading companies in Ireland for new spare parts for all makes and models of tractors.

Today, the business carries thousands of line items at its premises, with a vast wealth of knowledge on all types of tractors.

In 2020, Colm took over the ownership of Clifford’s Tractor Parts and has furthered the business by importing and exporting tractor parts directly from Europe and further abroad. In doing so, he has ensured a steady flow of parts that are hard to come by.

Due to the increasing warehouse needs that come with importing goods from abroad, Colm has decided to sell his collection of prized vintage tractors. Colm’s own collection is composed of 13 tractors including his genuine Ford 7810 silver Jubilee. A good friend of Colm’s, Joe Sweeney, passed away a number of years ago, and his beloved collection is also up for sale.

Joe had two exceptionally rare Ferguson Browns that are number 84 and 243 out of a manufacturing run of 1,350 tractors; both tractors come with original tyres.

Colm, along with several of his friends and fellow tractor enthusiasts, have pooled together almost 60 tractors to auction on the day.

Some very notable tractors will be on offer, including a family of Lanz tractors that were imported from Germany; the Lanz vary in age, with the oldest being manufactured in 1935.

Rarity of machines

Colm believes that there will not be another auction like this ever again in Ireland “due to the rarity of some of these machines”.

The auction is being hosted by Micheal Doyle and will also be available on his website, https://doyle.marteye.ie/

The auction is set to start at 11am, but viewing will begin at 9am on the day and viewing will also be possible on Friday 22 August from 9am to 6pm.

There will be food and amenities available on the day, along with a variety of special offers on tractor parts that will be available in store.

Some of the most noteworthy offers are on oil, linkage parts as well as other specified items. Parking is available at and around the premises and it is a day not to be missed.
