Ford Corsair cars and JCB vintage machines are the focal point at the upcoming Mountbellew Vintage Club’s 23rd annual vintage rally taking place on Sunday 26 July on the grounds of Mountbellew Co-Operative Livestock Mart (H53 HW98).
The Ford Corsair was launched at the London Motor Show in 1963 and manufactured as a saloon or estate from 1964 to 1970. It was available in standard, deluxe and GT form and a two-door version could be manufactured on special order. There was also a convertible version which was very rare.
Reports indicate the standard and deluxe versions cost from £650 to £700 with the GT model over £100 dearer.
While the car enjoyed a fleeting period of popularity it never took off in the same way as the Cortina Mark I and was overshadowed in the late 1960s by the introduction of the Cortina Mark III.
A dedicated section is being held at the rally along with a dedicated section also for the wide range of JCB vintage machines. There will also be extensive field work displays including hay making and thrashing of tillage crops. The club also expects a large entry of vintage tractors and cars and steam engines will also be in attendance. Other attractions include an auto jumble, timber cutting and butter making demonstrations and music by Jack Keogh.
