Well-known auctioneer at Tuam Mart Pat Burke stayed true to his word on Monday, arriving to the mart in a Mayo jersey following the county’s victory in Croke Park on Sunday.
Pat had said himself that if Mayo won the All-Ireland, he would wear the green and red jersey to the mart and he didn’t back down.
A proud Galway man living just four miles from the Mayo border, Pat said he was happy for Mayo’s big win on Sunday, despite having no ties to the county.
However, he warned that he hopes the win doesn’t affect cattle prices too much!
The jersey reveal sparked great banter around the ring, but thankfully the cattle were not bothered by the county colours and business carried on as usual.
The only thing livelier that the bidding was the slagging directed towards Pat throughout the day.
In good spirits for his neighbouring county’s success after a 75-year drought, Pat proved that a promise made, is a promise kept.
