Abbey’s new low-height diet feeder
Abbey Machinery showcased a significant amount of the Tipperary manufacturer’s range of equipment at the Ploughing, including the new VF1900 single-axle vertical feeder. With a huge range of vertical auger feeders in its range, Abbey has specifically developed a series of low-height machines, for feeding in the likes of older sheds which are often restricted in height.
In the single axle low-height range, which is slightly wider than the standard machines, it had previously offered the VF1500 and the VF2100. However, at the Ploughing, Abbey added the new VF1900 to this offering. With an overall height of 2.6m, as the name suggests, the VF1900 is a 19m3 machine. Fitted with two 22mm vertical augers, it features 10 knives and counter knives.
Equipped with a Comer Planetary gear drive, it features two independent discharge doors.
The feeder is shod on twin wheels as standard and features four weigh bars, which display feed weights on an electronic scale. Other standard features include a flat top ring and a wide-angle PTO shaft. The unit is priced at €52,500, including VAT.

The Pronar T679/4MN trailer is priced at €20,000 plus VAT.
New Pronar dump trailer
The JF Centre Tullamore put on an impressive display, which included the new T679/4MN dump trailer from Polish manufacturer Pronar. The firm explained that the T679/4MN dump trailer is designed for earthmoving and farm work.
The body of the trailer is made of two folded 4mm metal sheets, reinforced around the perimeter with cross-sections increasing towards the rear. Pronar says this makes it easier to pick up loose material with, for example, an excavator bucket, without causing damage.
The design is based on tandem suspension with longitudinal control arms. Pronar explains that the control arms operate independently of each other, so that the trailer remains stable. As standard, the trailer is shod on 400/600-15.5 tyres.
Coming with the option of loading ramps, they are neatly secured under the body for transport, and attach to the rear of the machine for loading and unloading machines such as a mini excavator.
The load compartment is equipped with four load securing points (two front and two rear).
A wide range of optional extras, such as a Hardox body, a hinged tailgate and additional extensions increasing the capacity of the trailer from 4.5m3 to 11m3 can be added. The trailer is priced at €20,000 plus VAT.

Volvo’s L20 electric loader has a tipping load of 3,050kg.
Electric Volvo loader makes Irish debut
Pat O’Donnell & Co, the Irish distributor of Volvo Construction Equipment, debuted the firm’s new generation L20 electric compact wheel loader.
According to Volvo, it now features a 20% increase in battery capacity as standard, delivering extended runtime for a full day’s work.
Volvo claims that the L20 Electric builds on the success of the previous generation to take the electric concept to a new level.
Volvo says the new indicative runtime, depending on its application, is up to eight hours. It now features a 22kW electric motor powering the driveline and a 14kW motor powering the working hydraulics.
With an operating weight of 4,550kg, the machine has a tipping load of 3,050kg. With a breakout force of 35 kN, Volvo claims it has a hydraulic lifting capacity of 35 kN. It features a battery capacity of 40 kWh as standard, or can be optionally upgraded to 56 kWh. The loader comes with a maximum travel speed as standard of 20km/h.

The ATV roll over protection system is priced at €1,800 plus VAT.
Clever quad roll-over protection system
Engineering and agricultural equipment specialists, Jetwash Ltd based in Carrigallen, Co Leitrim showcased a unique ATV rollover protection system at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.
The AR-Quad by Air-Rops is a clever, French-built solution designed to deploy using an ejector style approach in the event that the ATV on which it is fitted overturns.
The rollover frame expands from its folded working position via an instantaneous gas inflator system, in a similar manner to how an air bag is deployed in a car accident.
The universal unit weighs 18kg and is mounted via the ATV’s tow bar bracket and supported from the rear cargo rack.
Jetwash outlined that the system offers a much lower centre of gravity in comparison to competitor solutions, along with increased functionality. A built-in inclinometer sensor constantly measures the angle at which the quad is travelling across in order to detect rollover or unsuitable terrain. When the recommended travel angle has been exceeded, a hard-wired alarm and a dash light is triggered.
However, the single use, gas inflator system is not triggered until the exact point that the ATV rolls over. Once triggered, the unit extends from its folded position, preventing the ATV from rolling over completely and crushing the rider.
The alarm and warning light remain active to signal others in the event that the rider is injured and unresponsive.
The entire kit including mounting brackets and 12-24v wiring harness is priced at €1,800 plus VAT. Replacement gas inflation canisters cost €250 each.

The full system is priced from €6,000 plus VAT.
Topcon value line steering system
With the influx of more competitively priced auto-steering solutions on the market catering for budget-conscious customers, Topcon has responded with its Value Line range.
Topcon believe that this, combined with the quality and strength of the being a well-established brand, leaves it at an advantage over others.
The Value Line kit includes the XC1 plus 10in display, XR-1 GNSS receiver and XW-1 electric steering wheel, and has a starting price of €6,000 plus VAT.
Through the use of unlocks, the terminal can be used as an Isobus-UT, meaning it can be used to control basic Isobus implements.
Further unlocks are available for the task controller, variable rate applications and auto steer headland turns. Using free to air signal, the system has an accuracy of up to 25cm which can be upgraded using the Starpoint subscription-based correction service.
To simplify setup and reduce cost, Topcon uses a virtual wheel angle sensor in its Value Line steering system instead of a mechanical wheel angle sensor used in its Premium line range.
The system can be purchased in a modular format, whereby the XC1 plus display and XR-1 receiver can be bought initially as a manual guidance system, costing €3,100 plus VAT and later upgraded to auto-steer by fitting the XW-1 steering unit for an additional €3,200 plus VAT.
