The latest FTMTA figures show that the August 2026 new tractor market at 150 units was 15% higher when compared with the same month in 2025.

The year-to-date figure was 1,920 new tractors registered, which was a 6% increase over the same eight-month period in 2025. Counties Cork, Galway and Meath delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations for August.

The 121hp to 140hp category and the 161hp to 200hp category shared the lead in terms of power bands for August 2026, each accounting for 23% of all new tractor registrations.

The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for August 2026 was 141hp, and the largest tractors registered were each rated at 335hp.

The FTMTA data shows that 219 imported, used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in August 2026, 40 units higher than in August 2025.

There were 1,948 used tractors first-time registered in Ireland for the year to the end of August 2026.

Northern Ireland tractor sales

According to the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), new tractor registrations in Northern Ireland in August recorded 51 units, which is a 27.5% increase year on year.

Overall, the 2026 Northern Irish new tractor registrations are running at 552 units, which is 57.7% ahead of the same period in 2025.

Looking at the UK as a whole, the AEA explained that the number of new tractors being registered across the UK dropped further below the seasonal average in August and, for the first time this year, it was also lower than in the same month last year.

The 395 machines recorded during the month were 2% fewer than in August 2025 and was more than 40% below the average for the time of year in the previous five years. That compares with a shortfall of just 5% in the opening seven months of this year. Nevertheless, it noted that registrations for the year to date reached 7,284 tractors – 18% more than in January to August 2025 – with the annual figure still on course to return to the 10,000-12,000 range that was typical in the decade prior to last year.

Telehandler sales down in August

The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported a 9% decrease in August 2026, at 51 units compared with August 2025.

The two leading brands for the year to date, JCB and Manitou, accounted for 72% of the total year to date market, with Weidemann ahead of Kramer in third place. There were 37 imported used telescopic loaders registered in August 2026, a slight reduction from the 40 units registered in August 2025.

Wheel loaders

The wheeled loader market recorded a 33% lower number of new registrations in August 2026, at nine units compared to August 2025.

The Chinese manufactured machines at the lower price end of the market accounted for 50% of the new wheeled loader registrations. There were five imported used wheeled loaders registered in June 2026, compared to seven in August 2025.
