The election of President Macron for a second term in France provides continuity and stability at this critical time in Europe.

While he has plenty of domestic issues in France, he has been one of the EU leaders who demonstrated an understanding of the threat of war in Ukraine to food security.

Understandably, in recent weeks his priority has been the election. But his voice is badly needed along with other EU leaders to push the European Commission into rethinking its agriculture and food strategy in light of events in Ukraine.

This cannot be achieved without revisiting the Farm to Fork strategy, which is the chassis on which the incoming CAP is built.

The EU needs to demonstrate agility to adapt to the new reality since 24 February which multiplies the global impact from the loss of productive agriculture in the EU as outlined in a series of impact assessments.

The EU is now a very different place from where it was when Farm to Fork was devised and needs to reflect the reality of this new situation, not stick rigidly to what was always a flawed ideal that does not balance food security with environmental ambition.
