Valued at over €21m, the Sheep Welfare Scheme's highest beneficiaries are Galway, Donegal and Mayo. This is consistent with the national sheep census which shows those counties have the highest numbers of sheep in the country. Kerry and Wicklow also fare well in terms of the scheme, receiving a combined total of €3.25m between them.
