Wright AB from Co Monaghan is launching a 50% concrete, 50% rubber hybrid slat where the walking surface is evenly split between concrete and rubber. The company claims that the combination of rubber and concrete allows for hooves to be sufficiently worn, while still providing good grip for cows.
The combination, known as the ECO-Floor is being used on more than 700 dairy farms across the EU, catering for 60,000 cows. The slats have 40mm openings and are being targeted at dairy farmers to combat the growing issues of lameness which can have a huge effect on the farm’s production potential.
Further details on the ECO-Floor are expected in the coming weeks and the product will be on display on block two, row two, stand 29 at the National Ploughing Championships.
