Last Thursday’s sale at Ulster Farmers Market, Enniskillen, saw a strong entry of over 1,200 cattle on offer, which were met with a strong trade.

In the bullock ring, lightweights sold from £2.20/kg to £2.42/kg. Medium-weights were said to be a reasonably strong trade and sold from £2.10/kg to £2.31/kg. Forward and heavy types are making from £1.90/kg to £2.05/kg.

Demand for heifers was said to be strong also, with medium-weights selling from £1.80/kg to £2.00/kg. Weanlings sold from £600 to £900, which was paid for a top-quality 417kg Charolais.

Demand was said to be strong for calves also. Strong Angus calves sold from £405 to £450, while continentals made from £325 to £390. Friesian bulls made from £100 to £120. Suckler demand was solid. Cows with calves at foot sold from £1,260 to £1,500, with better-quality types selling mainly from £1,300 to £1,500.
