UK extends tariff-free Ukrainian
egg imports
The UK government has extended tariff-free access for Ukrainian egg imports for two years, from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2028.
The move will see millions more eggs imported from battery cage systems — a system that has been banned in the UK for more than a decade.

This decision has significantly increased imports, with Ukraine becoming a major supplier.
However, it has sparked severe criticism from the UK farming industry over lower welfare standards.
Responding to the announcement, NFU Poultry Board Chair Will Raw reiterated the sector’s support for Ukrainian farmers but warned that the extension could have negative implications for UK poultry producers.
