Edwin Adams, now in his mid-80s, was the British sheep shearing champion back in 1971.
He was the first Ulsterman to take the championship, and he was a European Gold medallist.
Earlier in life, Edwin helped kickstart the first machine shearing competition at Balmoral Show in 1960.
Using his knowledge as a top shearer, Edwin became an instructor and competition judge.
A new book, Shear Success, highlights Edwin’s achievements plus stories of young shearers, wool handlers and shearing families from the world of sheep.
The book highlights wool as a strong, natural, sustainable and biodegradable fibre which has many end-uses.
Shear Success will be launched at Balmoral Show on Wednesday, May 13 in the Sheep Shearing pavilion with the book’s author, Ian Harvey MBE, to hand.
The book will be on sale at the event with proceeds from the sale split between the Air Ambulance NI and Cancer Research UK and funds have already benefitted with donations from Danske Bank and Lakeland Dairies.
