Louise Breen’s first crop texel ewe won the John M. Mark Perpetual Silver Salver for overall sheep champion judged between all sheep classes at Londonderry and Limavady agricultural show on Saturday. V. and P. Fullerton from the Blackface (Lanark type) section took reserve champion on the day and so qualify with Louise Breenfor for the 'Champion of Champions' at Antrim show next weekend.

James and Sammy Carson from Clough, Ballymena, won the Perth Blackface champion with their aged ram and then went on to win the Scottish Rose Bowl for traditional breeds. This prize is for the best overall animal in the Blackface (Perth type), Border Leicester and Suffolk sheep sections.

There were over 500 entries of sheep across a range of commercial and as well as some native breeds. However, there was a smaller showing of cattle on Saturday, with 138 animals entered. Also on show was a variety of horses across a range of judging sections including Clydesdale and working and showing ponies.

Away from livestock, trade stands and machinery were also on show and the Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) had competitions between neighbouring clubs.

William Sleeman, Daniel Buchanan and Mark Connell from Dungiven Young Farmer’s club won the senior fencing competition. Entries were judged on a 24-metre fence with a bend at a predetermined point. Judges assessed teamwork, health and safety and quality of the finished fence. Moneymore Young Farmer’s club won the novice section in the fencing competition.
