A breeding cattle sale in Swatragh Livestock Mart on Friday saw a top price of £5,650 paid for a 2020-born Limousin cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot.
In general, the highest priced lots on the evening were mostly made up of Limousin-bred cows with Charolais-sired calves.
This includes a bull calf outfit that made £5,300, and a similar entry except with a heifer calf went for £5,250.
Likewise, the next-highest-priced lot was a Limousin cow and Charolais bull calf which made £5,050 and a similar heifer calf outfit made £4,600.
Four different lots on the night sold for £4,500, including two lots that were both Limousin cows with Simmental heifer calves. A Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf and a similar lot only with a bull calf both made £4,500. Overall, cow and calf outfits on the night sold to an average price of £4,250.
Springers
Among the entry of in-calf heifers, the top-priced springer was a Limousin that sold for £3,500. The next-highest-priced lot was a Limousin heifer that made £2,580 and a Salers heifer went for £2,520.
Maiden heifers were a strong trade and the highest priced lot was £2,820 for a 620kg Limousin.
Other top prices for Limousin maiden heifers included £2,800 for 660kg, £2,700 for 520kg and £2,480 for 540kg.
A Simmental bred bulling heifer which weighed 560kg sold for £2,420 and a 630kg Aberdeen Angus went for £2,400.
A pedigree Charolais bull was also sold on Friday night for £6,700.
The next breeding cattle sale at Swatragh is scheduled for Friday 12 June at 7pm, with an entry of 25 heifers with calves at foot. A weekly cattle sale takes place at the mart on Mondays from 11.30am and the weekly sheep sale is on Saturdays from 10.30am.
