A great sale of breeding stock hosted by Northern Counties Co-op Enterprises Ltd last Friday in Swatragh Livestock Mart saw 95% clearance being reached across the classes. With a packed ringside, it was very clear there is still a lot of interest in sales of well-bred suckler stock.
Plenty of keen bidders saw several lots making around the £5,000 mark. Quality calved heifers with strong calves at foot were in particular demand, while show type in-calf heifers and maidens were also highly sought after.
Top price of the day was the £5,180 paid for a heifer with an exceptional Limousin bull calf at foot.
Across all lots, cows and calves averaged £4,070.
The top priced in-calf heifer was a Limousin due in September which sold for £4,820. Other in-calf heifers sold to an average of £3,238.
Maiden heifers sold to £2,960 for a strong Limousin, with the rest averaging £2,193.

This 2022-born Belgian Blue cow with a February-born Limousin bull calf at foot, made £4,500.

This 2021-born Belgian Blue cow with an April-born Limousin heifer calf at foot, made £4,280.
