North Leitrim breeder Jon Regan has confirmed the private sale of Liscally Abracadabra to David MacKenzie of the Thurso herd in the UK.

It is understood the 12-month-old Charolais bull has been purchased for €20,000, one of the highest prices paid for a Charolais bull in Ireland in recent years.

Abracadabra is a son of the highly popular french sire Ocean while his mother is a daughter of Kelton Trident tracing back to the herd’s prolific breeding cow, Liscally Blossom. The same cow line produced the €15,500 Liscally Valerie ET, which sold to the UK at the Irish Charolais Cattle Society’s sale in September 2025.

David MacKenzie, who runs the 30-cow pedigree Thurso herd in Aberdeenshire spotted Abracadabra at the FBD National Livestock Show in Tullamore, Co Offaly, in August, where he stood overall junior male champion.

As well as running a successful pedigree enterprise, David also works off-farm as a ruminant feed director with Harbro in the UK. Commenting on the sale of the bull, Regan, said: “I’m delighted to announce the sale of Abracadabra to David who runs such a recognised pedigree herd in the UK. Abracadabra is the third bull to sell for €20,000 from this line, joining Liscally Lancer and Liscally Eti.”
