Trade was absolutely rocking at the British Limousin Cattle Society show and sale in Borderway Mart, Carlisle, over the weekend. Demand from commercial and pedigree breeders was ferocious right from the outset, underpinning the confidence in the Limousin breed in the UK.
An extraordinary 42 bulls sold for 10,000gns or more, with 94 bulls selling to an average of £10,609 (€12,292), up £569 on the year.
Having previously taking home the overall champion titles at Carlisle in May 2025, October 2025 and February 2026, the Goldies herd based out of Dumfries secured both champion and reserve overall championships in Friday’s show, making it four champions in a row at the venue.
It is also believed to be a record achievement for being the first breeder to be crowned champion and reserve champion at consecutive sales, having done the double in February.
Winning the supreme champion was the senior champion, Goldies Vainqueur, sired by the 32,000gns Goldies Torpedo and out of the homebred cow Goldies Olive, grandam of the 55,000gns Goldies Vista.
Born in July 2024 and carrying two copies of the profit gene, he was secured by Haulfryn Farming based in Buckley, Flintshire, for the highest price of 38,000gns (€46,232).
Standing reserve to him was his comrade, Goldies Velocity, who came through as overall intermediate champion. Homebred on both sides, sired by Goldies Juggler, he too is out of the homebred donor cow, Goldies Olive. Born in September 2024, this double F94L carrier was knocked down to Messrs Penny in Aberdeenshire at 18,000gns (€21,899).
