Munster Angus Breeders concluded its 2025 calendar with its successful Autumn Breeding Sale at Golden Vale Mart, Kilmallock, on Saturday 1 November.

The event once again demonstrated its strong national appeal, attracting buyers from across Ireland, including Northern Ireland as well as setting a new record price for a female.

As with most breeding sales this autumn, the average sale price was well up on last year’s sale, with the overall average reaching just under €3,425, an increase of over €800 compared to 2024.

Quality females, particularly those with high Eurostar indices saw robust demand. Eight lots achieved prices of €4,000 or more, reflecting the market’s appetite for premium breeding stock.

In-calf heifers averaged €4,150, up €950 from 2024, while maiden heifers averaged €3,080, up €550 on last year. The two bulls on offer averaged €3,300.

Albert De Cogan from Co Cork presided over the pre-sale show and for his champion he went for Ardglass Amber 367, a January 2024-born heifer from Aidan Crowley in Co Cork.

A daughter of Tubridmore Twomey ET, this five-star terminal and dairy-beef-index heifer goes back to Rosemead Karona J957 and Lawsonsford Bagatelle. Selling in-calf to Steil Victor, she was knocked down at €5,000.

Record breaker

Topping the trade and selling for the record price of €6,800, was the reserve champion Luddenmore Ellen Erica A660, a July 2024-born maiden heifer by Carruthers Earl W088 from Michael Sheahan in Co Tipperary.

Another high-index heifer from the Ellen Erica line, she goes back to Drumhill Exeter V105 and Ranui W Impact 762.

She was followed by Luddenmore Tibbie, an August 2024-born maiden heifer from the same holding.

Sired by Luddenmore Ebony Boy, she carries a carcase weight figure of +23kg and realised €4,600.

Derrinacahara Aine, a February 2024-born in-calf heifer sired by Progressive Genetics’ Coolrain Patriarch from George Kingston, Dunmanway, Co Cork, sold for the second-highest price of €5,400. This one packed a page full of stars and sold in-calf to Drumcrow Urban Fire.

Son of a Gun

Gerard Coughlan from Bandon in Co Cork received €4,600 for Curraclough Wanda, an April 2023-born in-calf heifer sired by Deelish Son of a Gun.

Carrying a four-star replacement index of €142, she sold in-calf to Aughnamona All-star.

Commenting on the sale, Sean Cronin of the Munster Angus Breeders group, said: “We would like to express our gratitude to all exhibitors for presenting cattle of such high calibre – a key factor in the continued buyer trust and strong market performance. We wish all purchasers the very best with their new stock and look forward to welcoming everyone to our spring 2026 sales, with updates to follow in the coming weeks.”
