As the first ever all-red Angus sale in Europe, the Lisduff Red Legacy online timed auction posed a unique opportunity for domestic and overseas Angus breeders.
Held over the weekend through Ballyjamesduff Mart and MartEye, the sale attracted massive interest from abroad, with bidders from Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Northern Ireland and all over Ireland.
Leading the prices at €10,200 was Lisduff Red Kate V719, which sold with her baby heifer calf at foot.
A daughter of Lanigan Red Krackerjack, her dam Silverfield Red Kate L730 is sired by Hawkley Red Jack E217.
Born in May 2019, this impressive cow carries a four-star replacement index of €148, coupled with a milk figure of +9.8kg and will join a growing pedigree herd in Northern Ireland.
Red Evie
Following her all the way to €9,400 was Oaklea Red Evie V887, with her young bull calf at foot.
A daughter of Oaklea Red Genius R618, this outfit offered a nice array of indexes and a cow line going back to the original Netherton Evita in Scotland. Having the final call on Red Evie was a Portuguese breeder.

Not far behind at €9,200 was the March 2023-born Lisduff Red Wagon, with her heifer calf at foot.
A daughter of Lisduff Red Tiger, she goes back to the same family as the AI bull Lisduff Red Pepper and found a new abode with another Portuguese outfit.
A bid of €8,300 secured Lisduff Red Lilly Y992 for a breeder in Spain.
A daughter of Oaklea Red Glacier R617, her dam is out of the high-index Paringa Iron Ore E27 and going back to Lanigan Red Deep Canyon. She presented buyers with a decorative set of indexes, which included a whopping replacement index of €203.
Maidens
Matching her at the same money and leading the maiden heifer trade was Lisduff Red Kate A289. Just one year old, this promising young heifer is a daughter of Azh Pascha and will now join a newly established herd in Ireland.
Next in line at €8,000 was Lisduff Red Miss W851, a 2020 born in-calf cow. Sired by Oaklea Red Glacier R617, her dam Lisduff Red Miss T511 was shown this year, securing overall Angus champion at Trim Show in September. Offering a balanced spread of indexes across most traits, she was snapped up an Irish breeder.
European buyers were back in action again when Pedro Pires wrapped up Lisduff Red Rose Bud at €7,700. Born in October 2018, this eye-catching daughter of Lanigan Red Krackerjack sold alongside her promising young heifer calf.
Overall, 86% of the 42 lots forward sold, as cows with calves at foot averaged €8,166, in-calf cows averaged €5,416, maidens averaged €6,500 and two young bulls averaged €5,800.
