Following a successful premier show and sale where many customers went home empty-handed, a second sale has been organised for Thursday 23 October in Ballinasloe Mart.
The Galway Sheep Breeders Association has organised a supplementary show and sale of purebred registered Galway sheep which takes place on Thursday 23 October in Ballinasloe Mart, Co Galway.
The show will take place at 6pm (all sheep must be penned by 5pm) with the sale starting at 7pm.
The association says the decision to hold a sale comes on the back of a successful premier show and sale held a few ago in Athenry Mart where many customers went home disappointed.

There will be six classes – a senior ram class for rams born from 2021 to 2023, hogget rams, ram lambs, breeding ewes (born 2022 or 2023), ewe hoggets and ewe lambs.
Each breeder can show and sell a maximum of five sheep for this sale, ie two pairs of females and one ram.
Sheep will be judged in their pens – rams will be judged individually while females will be judged in pairs in each class.

Only one male sheep per breeder can be entered in the show and sale. Every male must be genotyped and parentage verified and be categorised as Type 1, 2 or 3 for scrapie.
Rams do not need to be eligible for the Sheep Improvement Scheme but the majority are expected to be eligible for interested customers.
