It was an incredibly hot week at the Great Yorkshire Show for stock, exhibitors and spectators. With the new Bluetongue restrictions in the UK sheep numbers where down slightly on previous years but the quality was still extremely strong.

Tasked with judging the strong interbreed championship was well known pedigree sheep breeder Willie Ingram of the Logie Durno flock. Standing out as his interbreed champion was a super Texel shearling ram named Uppermill Highway Express from the Boden family’s Sportsmans flock. The super Texel shearling ram was sired by the 30,000gns Clanfield Golden and his dam was by the 26,000gns Ettrick Earthquake. He was purchased by the Boden family at the Solway and Tyne Texel club sale in Carlisle last autumn for 10,000gns.

Reserve interbreed champion was awarded to a striking hombred Beltex shearling ewe from Wilkinson family’s Langlands flock. This well-muscled shearling ewe was a daughter of the much-admired Matt’s Joker.
