ESB has energised its first wholly-owned solar farm, the 44ac Bullstown Solar Farm, located to the southeast of Ashbourne, Co Meath.

Greencells GmbH was awarded the contract to build the farm, which represents an investment of €13m.

Now energised, Bullstown Solar Farm will generate 8.4MW, enough to power more than 2,000 homes per year.

Bullstown Solar Farm is connected to the electricity network via a short length of cable into the existing Ashbourne 38kV substation that adjoins the site.

Full planning permission has been granted by Meath County Council and the project was successful within the RESS 2 auction in June 2022.

ESB said that it is set to launch the Bullstown Solar Farm community benefit fund in early 2026, which will distribute grants to organisations in the local area.
