Subaru XV Crossover and Forester get electrified

Subaru Europe recently unveiled the first electrified Subaru XV Crossover and the new Forester e-Boxer. These new models feature the e-Boxer, Subaru’s new-generation power unit, which combines motor assist with two of Subaru’s core technologies: boxer engine and symmetrical AWD. The new Forester models claim to preserve the distinctive combination of symmetrical all-wheel-drive, with the newly adopted e-Boxer engine system. It incorporates a direct-injection 2.0l horizontally opposed four-cylinder petrol engine, featuring 80% new components, paired with an electric motor within the transmission, to give claims of a smoother and more responsive acceleration. The electric motor is powered by a high-performance Lithium ion battery, DC/DC converter and electric motor inverter.

The new system offers three driving modes: engine driving, EV driving, and motor assist driving. Subaru claims that this new e-Boxer offers improved fuel consumption in urban, stop-and-go traffic. Depending on the driver’s driving style, they claim that fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 11%, compared to the outgoing 2.0l petrol version.
