A new bonus for beef from the Belted Galloway cattle breed is being rolled out for 2018.

EuroFarm Foods in Duleek, Co Meath, is initially sourcing four or five Belted Galloways each week for slaughter. There are hopes to expand this further.

EuroFarm will sell Belted Galloway steak cuts to butchers in Dublin and one shop in Co Kilkenny.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the bonus payment will be 20c/kg on top of the base price, with the animals also eligible for the Quality Assurance (QA) payment once they meet the usual criteria.

The cattle must have strong Belted Galloway breeding in them with at least three-quarter-bred cattle preferred.
