The Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand (DCANZ) has reported that January milk production in the country has dropped by 4.9% (-7.4% on a milk solids basis).

For the season to date, New Zealand milk production remained unchanged - which equated to -0.9% on a milk solids basis.

This week’s Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction in New Zealand saw average dairy commodity prices fall by 0.5%.

Skimmed milk power (SMP) prices fell by 3% to just over $1,800/t (€1,480/t), while whole milk powder (WMP) prices remained steady at $3,250/t (€2,630/t).

Butter prices increased by 1% to $5,330/t (€4,320/t), while cheddar prices dipped by 1.3% to just below $3,700/t (€3,000/t).
