AGM season has passed for the west Cork co-ops and there are a few new (and old) faces heading for the boardroom.

Johnny O’Brien was elected as chair of Barryroe Co-op in a contest with Michael Sexton. As it’s Barryroe’s turn in rotation for the Carbery chair, this will see O’Brien assume the role next month. He previously held the post from 2009 to 2011.

With no changes at the helm of Bandon and Drinagh respectively, there will only be one new face on Carbery’s board as Christy Condon was elected unopposed as chair of Lisavaird Co-op.

He replaces James Healy, whose term was up. Condon previously held the vice-chair position which will now be filled by well-known, cattle breeder, John Appelbe.

He won out in a three-way contest ahead of John Beechinor and Colm O’Sullivan.

Elsewhere, I hear Bandon Co-op’s Vanessa Kiely O’Connor has been elected chair of Clóna.
