Word has reached my ears that a Teagasc-facilitated discussion group went on a trip to the Dáil recently. The farmers assembled in Buswells Hotel, across from the gates to Leinster House, at lunchtime before they went into the Dáil to meet with Minister Heydon.

The first arrivals were pleasantly surprised to find a table reserved for Teagasc, with a table full of fabulous food on display. Naturally, the farmers tucked in as they landed, thinking it was for them.

Panic ensued when one of the group phoned their chair to see when he would arrive, and to thank him for the spread

“What food?”, he said in reply. “I hadn’t organised any food!” It turns out a delegation of senior Teagasc advisers was attending Leinster House themselves that day, and had booked lunch in Buswells. As the penny dropped, the farmers slipped away, leaving Teagasc’s hierarchy in full Goldilocks mode.
