At the end of December Longford native John Beirne will retire from the Irish Charolais Cattle Society, having worked as a linear scorer, weight recorder and inspector with the society for nearly 30 years.

A gentleman in every sense of the word, Beirne always carried out his duties with respect and dignity.

At the society’s recent Christmas Cracker sale on 6 December, John was honoured with lifetime membership of the society.

The Newtownforbes native is to be replaced by Meath man Shane Maguire, who will commence his duties with the society in January.

We wish them both all the very best in the future.
