Macra na Feirme understandably came under a bit of heat last week when it emerged that the distribution of funds for its mental health awareness calendar was not thought out.

The calendar was launched at the National Ploughing Championships last month and features humorous photos of scantily clad Macra members, as well as positive messages from the initiative Walk In My Shoes of St Patrick’s Mental Health Foundation. It is on sale for €10.

The majority of people, including The Dealer, thought that the deal was that Macra would get €4, St Patrick’s would get €4 and the printers would get €2 from each sale. However, it emerged that that was only the case for a portion of the calendars, with Macra getting €8 and the printers getting €2 for the calendars it sold.

St Patrick’s Foundation was selling calendars by itself too.

So, after red cheeks (both kinds), sense has prevailed. Macra will split its profits with St Patrick’s. Macra president Seán Finan acted quickly and decisively to solve the problem.
