The bison could soon find itself searching for a little house on the prairie with news that the administration of US president Donald Trump wants them evicted from over 60,000ac of rangelands in Montana, a move that would clear grazing ground for cattle ranchers.
The federal agency responsible for managing grazing permits on the US’s vast stretches of public lands, the BLM, has proposed revoking bison grazing rights that had been granted to Montana tribes and conservation groups for decades.
To The Dealer, it looks like Trump is banking on the rancher vote rather than that of the Native Americans or wildlife-friendly voters with mid-term elections drawing near.

But with the administration also stating that is prepared to lever “every law enforcement tool available to help reduce food prices” for US consumers, it could be cattle prices that sway tallies across the rural west.
