Tenders are being sought for the provision of nest protection officers for the upcoming Hen Harrier Programme. The role’s main purpose is to reduce the risk from nest and chick predators, namely fox, mink, hooded crow and magpie.
“The nest protection officer will also assist in the monitoring of predators and liaise with local farmers and gun clubs. Record keeping is an essential part of this role,” the tender description reads.
The Hen Harrier Programme opened for farmer applications on 8 December and the €25m scheme is targeting 1,100 to 1,200 participants from hen harrier designated areas.
