It’s been one of the driest summers in recent memory especially in the southeast but for some weather stations there it was also the summer with the most rain in the last three years.

I’d be very careful how I’d word it and most rain tells the story better than it being the wettest, but according to Met Éireann rainfall data, Johnstown Castle and Moorepark had more rain in June through August this year than last year or 2024.

Last weekend’s downpours skewed figures and balanced out the fact that between the two locations there was barely 3mm of precipitation recorded in July.

It’s a good display of the dangers of averages. In years to come the records might show it to be the wettest drought we’ve ever seen.
