The Dealer enjoyed the Tirlán open days at the Kilkenny Cheese and Belview milk plants in Kilkenny this week.
At a cost of €220m to build, it was great to see where the money went. A few ould lads commented at the end that the shiny new cheese plant made the Belview powder plant look old, even though its only in just over a decade.
It was interesting watching who else was on the tour, with Pat Murphy from Kinisla and Michael Harte from Dairygold checking out the quality of the workmanship in the new cheese plant.
It was also interesting to see some Arratipp milk suppliers on the tour. Are they thinking of jumping ship to get a higher milk price?
