In our Focus this week we look at the impact of Brexit on the forestry sector. At nine million cubic meters per annum, the UK is the largest importer of timber in Europe.

Ireland has grown its share of the market steadily since the housing crash of 2008. Over this period, timber exports grew from 20% to 65% of total production, with the vast majority destined for the UK.

Interestingly, with the main competitors in this market either EU member states or those operating within the EFTA (European Free Trade Association), the Irish sector is confident that it can continue to grow market share in the UK despite Brexit challenges.
