A proposal for a 275ac solar farm has secured planning permission from Longford County Council.
BNRG Ballymahon Ltd applied for a 10-year planning permission for a large-scale solar farm and energy storage development across the townlands of Tirlickeen, Cartronbrack, Clogh, Corryena and Lismacmorrough in County Longford.
The proposed development will cover a total site area of approximately 233ac, with an estimated export capacity to the national grid of up to 80MW. The development will consist of the installation of approximately 700,000 square metres of solar PV panel arrays, including around 355,000 square metres of ground-mounted panels supported by steel frame structures, with the remaining area allocated for solar array row spacing.
It will also include the installation of approximately 18 MV stations and an energy storage compound consisting of 56 containerised energy storage modules and associated plant and equipment.
The project received multiple submissions and objections but was ultimately granted permission, subject to 22 conditions.
These conditions include the payment of €676,800 to Longford County Council as a development contribution, along with the implementation of mitigation measures against glint and glare, as outlined in the council’s decision.
