Pippa Hacket on her farm in Co Offally after baling hay. \ Philip Doyle

It has been a while since I’ve written anything about former minister of state Pippa Hackett. Anyway, I see she’s trying out ‘bale grazing’ with hay on her own farm this winter.
She took to TikTok last week to showcase a 20ac field which the Hacketts plan to outwinter cattle on, feeding 95 bales in situ. Most people do this with rape and silage but the former minister is putting her own twist on it.
The aim, she said, is to feed the soil as well as the cattle. I must monitor their progress.
