The Irish Farmers Journal and Red C surveyed over 1,000 farmers to get their views on farming and the state of play in rural Ireland. Odile Evans and Amy Forde analyse the results.

A large proportion of farmers believe that the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed is doing an adequate job in his role. However, one-third say Minister Creed is doing poorly.
Support for Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed is poorest among farmers in the lower-income sectors. Specialist sheep farmers, aged between 35 and 44, with a farm size of less than 40ha, are more likely to rate his performance as poor or very poor.

The minister performs better among his home constituents, with one in four farmers from Munster rating him as ‘‘good’’ or ‘‘very good’’.
Those most likely to rate Minister Creed as good are dairy farmers aged between 18 and 34 and with a farm size of between 51ha and 60ha.
