It looks like there won’t be a contest in ICMSA to succeed John Comer as president and instead deputy president Pat McCormack will be elected unopposed into the role in coming weeks.
That’s The Dealer’s conclusion anyway, given how calm the organisation’s stand was over the three days of the Ploughing, with no canvassing taking place.
If so, that will be quite a departure. Comer had to run against Dominic Cronin to become president. And in midterm he was challenged by Stephen Shortall but saw off the west Cork man.

The previous president, Jackie Cahill, won a three-way vote against Dominic Cronin and Joe Fitzgerald. He, too, was challenged midterm and outvoted the challenger, former president Pat O’Rourke.
O’Rourke had to beat Frank Allen, also a former president, to take the presidency.
