The South Eastern Simmental Club held its autumn calf finals at Ossory Show. The well represented show brought out a lot of new breeders which were to the fore in many of the classes. The finals were judged by Michael Oliver of the well-known Lisnacrann herd in Co Mayo.

The yearling bull final sponsored by Chancelor Mills, Kilkenny, was won by Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Co Laois, with a Kilbride Farm Dragoon son, Clonagh Goodie 2 Shoes. Reserve went to another of Garrett’s bulls from the same sire, Clonagh Gentle Giant.

On to the weanling bull final, which was sponsored by Liffey Mills, new breeder Michael Keating claimed top spot with Anatrim Bodybuilder son Kickham Godzilla. Reserve here went to Denis Maher of Newport with Ballykin Ger, a Cloondroon Calling son.

The yearling heifer final sponsored by Centenary Co-op Templemore was won by Tullyfarm Goldengirl, a Kilbride Farm Delboy daughter from Ciaran Kinahan, Tubber. Garrett Behan was back on the cards again when he scooped the reserve title with Clonagh Groovy Girl again out of Kilbride Farm Dragoon.

In the weanling heifer final sponsored by Portasol, Lyndsey Behan came out triumphant with Kilbride Farm Dragoon daughter Jennalyn Gypsy Rose. Reserve went to Liam Martin, Nenagh, with Celtic Eurostar daughter Knockaroe Girdy Girl.

The South Eastern Club also held its senior female final sponsored by Dovea Genetics. The supreme championship was awarded to Garrett Behan for his Banwy T-Rex daughter, Clonagh Dora the Explorer, which capped off an excellent day for the Laois man. Reserve in this section went to Martin Mooney, Shannonbridge, with Anatrim Bodybuilder daughter, Fearna Faith.
