The Irish Parthenaise Cattle Society has exported embryos worth almost €40,000 to Australia.

It is the first time that embryos from Ireland have been exported down under.

The 38 embryos, estimated at €850 to €1,000 each, were collected by embryologist Dáire Markham from eight different cows in his collection centre in Roscommon.

Having obtained a health cert from the Department of Agriculture, the embryos were quarantined for a period of two months before being dispatched this week.

This shipment breaks the seal on a, until now, untouched market for Irish genetics.
