A huge crowd gathered in the large grain store that was emptied just last week for today’s auction on behalf of David Hatton.

The store provided the perfect acoustic setting for auctioneer David Quinn of Carnew Mart, who used one of the flat-bed bale trailers in the centre of the grain store as his platform.

“There was a massive crowd and almost 100% clearance of lots, which is always good to see," Quinn told the Irish Farmers Journal after the event.

"The fact that the machinery was maintained to such a good standard helped to sell machines, especially the higher-value items. Overall, we’re very happy with the outcome.”

The various lots were arranged around the perimeter of the store for all interested parties to inspect.

Some of the pieces and prices included:

  • Claas jag 850, 2006 - €55,000
  • 24ft Broughan tri-axle with hydraulic door, 2017 - €22,000
  • Silage trailers - €11,500 to €22,000
  • Deutz m640 with 4,472hrs, 2011 - €47,500
  • Bredal k85 spreader, 2008 - €27,000
  • Samco four row maize sower, one season - €27,000
  • Horsch pronto DC4 drill, 2012 - €20,000
  • JCB tm310s agri, 5,107hrs, 2011 - €41,500
  • The owner of the equipment, David Hatton said: “I’m retiring from silage contracting, but will continue tillage farming."

"Overall, I’m reasonably happy with the sale. I started cutting silage in 1973 and this will be my first year not on hire."

His attention to detail and care for his equipment showed in the keen bidding on all lots. On the sale price, 2.5% commission applied. Sale prices excluded VAT at 23%.
