Increased pressure has come on prime lamb prices over the past few weeks with the average price paid sitting at £1.63/kg in Scottish auctions over the past week.

Despite the poor price, throughput has remained strong at 15,450 head, pushing up slightly on last week.

Optimism

There may be a case for cautious optimism as sales early in the week saw prices creep up to an average of £1.67/kg. However, whether this positive sentiment will remain is yet to be seen.

The average October SQQ lamb price from 2013 to 2017 was just under £1.60/kg, with last year’s prices averaging £1.63/kg according to figures compiled by QMS highlighting the season dip that occurs.
