The last fortnight has seen a large number of properties come to the market for public auction in late September and early October. The majority of these auctions are around Leinster. Irish Country Living previews eight farms of varying acreages that will be presented for sale in the coming weeks.

The lands are suitable for any type of farming, but would fit someone looking for an outfarm for silage or a standalone farm. Fenced well, it is livestock proof. It is being sold by a farmer consolidating his holding.

As well as the land, it contains an old, derelict, two-storey house as well as old farm buildings – including a four-span hay shed. It is situated 4km east of Ballynacargy and 12km from Mullingar.

In addition to this, there is a derelict farmhouse and yard, which provide some potential for a new purchaser to apply for planning permission.

The guide on this is €360,000, or €9,000/ac. The second lot is circa 17 acres of forestry and scrub (accessed via a right of way) with a premium of circa €1,800/annum. The guide price for this lot is €50,000, or €2,950/ac.

Coming to the market in the last number of weeks, this good-quality farm will be auctioned in early October. Divided into 12, good-sized fields, the farm is laid out in 133 acres of tillage and 35 acres of grass. In terms of buildings, there is a three-link hay shed with a double lean-to and the lands are supplied by a mains water supply. Thus far interest has been strong, with some cross-border parties enquiring, according to auctioneer Tommy Clarke of Kieran and McGee.

This is a good grazing farm that has been rented for the last number of years. While farmed in good heart, it could do with some nourishment. There are no entitlements with this sale and the holding includes a bog parcel of circa two acres in Waterstown, which is mostly high-bank bog.
