Four Galway farms are up for auction in mid-March, each offering different opportunities to buyers. A mix of commonage and owned land, with large, medium and small acreages, the farms will attract a selection of buyers to the Peacock Hotel in Maam Cross in Galway on 15 March. Offering the farms is agent Luke Spencer of Spencer Auctioneers in Oughterard, Co Galway.
138 acres of mountain ground near Clifden
The first farm that will be auctioned is 138 acres of mountain ground in Doonen near Clifden in Galway. The land is not commonage ground and is being sold by a local farmer. There are 124 acres of claimable land and it is all laid out in one block. There are no entitlements being sold with this farm.
The agent noted that there is road frontage from the land, and the farm also contains a derelict house which may be approved for planning in the future. The farm is guided for €135,000 or just under €1,000/ac. Interest so far has been strong and not just from locals. A number of young farmers from across the country have viewed the holding. These potential buyers were from Cork and the midlands.
