Leading racehorse trainer Emmet Mullins has purchased Jim Bolger’s 150ac Kilkenny training base, Glebe House in Coolcullen.
Listed with Jordan Auctioneers in May with a guide price of €4m, the property includes a Georgian mansion, 158 stables equipped for elite training, extensive guest and staff accommodation, and state-of-the art gallop facilities for training across all terrain. The final sale price of the holding is not yet known.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Emmet, who has until now been based alongside his uncle Willie Mullins in Closutton, Co Carlow, said the purchase marked “an exciting step” for him.
“It’s a beautiful place and has great facilities,” he said.
“The gallop definitely stands out. It's world-renowned, the record speaks for itself over the last few decades.
“It keeps turning out good horses, and just to gain access to a gallop like that, it was definitely the biggest selling point.”
On filling the shoes of the legendary Jim Bolger, he said:
“It'll take a lot to fill them, and we've a lot to learn in the meantime, but hopefully one day we can emulate it.”
The sale of Glebe House is the latest in a series of property transactions by Bolger, who announced last year that he was consolidating his bloodstock interests.
