Over 50 entries competed at the inaugural NI National Simmental Show in Omagh over the weekend, which attracted a prize fund of £4,000.

It proved a particularly good day for David and Jonny Hazelton of the Ranfurly herd who claimed three of the four top prizes on offer.

The duo’s 18-month-old Ranfurly Jameson claimed the junior, male and overall championship on the day.

This stylish bull also took all before him at Balmoral Show just two months ago.

Sired by the famous Raceview King, he is out of the homebred Carnkern Titan daughter Ranfurly Weikel 17th.

He was tapped forward by judge Michael Barlow from the noted Denzies herd in Lancashire, who said: “The overall champion is a fine example of the Simmental breed. He has great conformation, good legs and feet, and oozes breed character.”

This was only the start of the success for the Hazelton family, who collected a total of five red rosettes on the day. While Jameson may have taken the top male spot, the Ranfurly herd was back in line to take the top female spot and reserve overall championship with Ranfurly Weikel 18th.

This three-year-old cow had previously secured the Simmental championship at Lurgan Show and reserve at Armagh Show.

Sire behind this powerful cow is the now 20-year-old Raceview King. Despite being unavailable for a number of years, the last of the Cork bull’s progeny are still demanding top placings at major shows.

Full sister to the Weikel 18th, Ranfurly Weikel 23rd was only one step behind, with the judge tapping her forward as reserve female champion. This two-year-old heifer was also female champion at Balmoral.

Taking the reserve male championship was Breaghey Kingdom from Andrew and Zara Clarke, Tynan, Co Armagh.

Sired by Omorga Regan, the five-month-old bull is out of the homebred Kilbride Farm Newry daughter Breaghey Beatrice.

Last of the championships on the day was the reserve junior championship, which was awarded to Cleenagh Jessica.

This young heifer exhibited by Robert and Julie Stinson, Enniskillen, was purchased at the Cleenagh dispersal last year and is a daughter of the 2014 and 2015 Balmoral champion Dermotstown Delboy.
