West Cork cattle breeders Keith and Caroline Vickery are hosting a special 'Rebelettes' sale of Angus heifers at the end of the month.

With most of the 2021 crop of Angus calves being heifers, the Vickerys chose this sale route.

Keith said: “They’re sired predominantly by HF Rebel and Rawburn Boss Hogg. They came from a consistent showy bunch and it's one of our best crop of heifers ever, so we decided to go for this special online sale of 11 2021-born heifers, two 2022 heifers and a pair of in-calf heifers.

"Bulls such as Glancantry Predator, Netherton Nelson and Dalrene Cruz laid the foundations of our Angus herd.

"Showing is an important part of the business, it’s a platform for the type of Angus we produce. While keeping calving ease as number one, we strive to have a very good carcase.”

Carbery Ulani, her full sister was junior champion at Carrick last December and sold for €6,400.

The Carbery prefix is synonymous in showing circles across the Angus, Limousin and Simmental breeds.

Show ring success resulted in the junior female champion selling for €6,400 at the elite Angus sale in Carrick-on-Shannon in December 2021 and a Carbery calf was overall Angus champion at this year’s Clonmel Show.

Iverk Show has proved a useful shop window for Carbery Angus, with Scottish buyers purchasing bulls.

Carbery U Nolana, maternal sister sold in elite sale Carrick-on-Shannon last December for €5,000.

The timed auction runs from Saturday 27 to Monday 29 August in conjunction with Cork Marts, Skibbereen, and the Marteye app. The heifers on offer can be viewed on farm on Saturday 20 August between 12pm and 6pm.
