The summer signifies a quieter period for Macra but not for Seandun, as many of the clubs have events on throughout the summer and our diligent top table and regional officers work behind the scenes to plan a new Macra year.

This summer will be an exciting one for Seandun Macra as two members have been selected to participate in the Rose of Tralee – always a great week filled with celebration.

Karen Cashman of Glanmire Macra na Feirme was selected to represent Abu Dhabi as a rose back in March. Karen has been teaching in the United Arab Emirates for the past year. She decided to enter the selection process when encouraged by a friend and wanted to push her boundaries. Karen was delighted to be the lucky participant chosen out of 12 women.

She can’t wait for the experience and will no doubt represent Glanmire and Seandun Macra brilliantly. Karen has been an active member in Macra for many years, so no doubt all eyes will be set on the dome.

There will be further excitement for Seandun Macra as Carrigaline Macra’s Jamie Flannery has been chosen as a rose escort. A newcomer to Macra this year, Dingle native Jamie has thrown himself into experiencing all that Macra has to offer. He represented the Seandun region at the Mr Personality Festival in April and also had a role in Carrigaline Macra’s national final drama act, so he is no stranger to the limelight. A fluent Irish speaker and Irish dancer, Jamie has many talents. This will undoubtedly be the most exciting role to date as he enjoys all that life as a Rose of Tralee escort has to offer.

Both Karen and Jamie have proven themselves to be proud Macra members who are willing to participate in all areas. We wish them well and hope they have a great experience. We can’t wait to see them in the dome.

Don’t forget also that many of our clubs will remain active throughout the summer. Remember to follow our Seandun Macra Facebook page and Snapchat account to keep up to date with all of our happenings throughout the summer.
